Military Medieval Maps

This is a collection of modern military maps that depict battles that took place during the medieval period. All of these maps were published at least 95 years ago and are no longer under copyright, but full source information is included.

Whenever possible, the maps are organized chronologically.

    Also called the Battle of Poitiers (do not confuse this one with the Battle of Poitiers in 1356), this was a confrontation between Charles Martel's Frankish army and the Muslim army led by Emir Abd er Rahman. Martel's victory stopped the spread of Islam into the north from Spain.

  • ThumbnailBattle of Hastings (1066 AD)

    Fought on Senlac Hill between William the Conqueror of Normandy and Harold, the Anglo-Saxon King of England. Despite some further resistance after the victory at Hastings, William was able to take the throne of England.

    This battle was beween the forces of Edward III of England and Philip VI of France during the Hundred Years' War. Although heavily outnumbered, the English were able to win the battle (mainly through the use of the longbow against the French knights).
