Shield
A generic term that is applied to a piece of armour that is held in the hand or strapped to the arm opposite the one that carries and uses a weapon. A shield is used block either the projectiles from ranged weapons (such as the arrows) or the blows from melee weapons (such as sword thrusts) through parrying. The enarmes allowed the shield to be gripped and strapped to the arm.
